Christopher Hare, the fighter

Christopher Hare is a fighter who asked Jaine to be his consort. This meant that he was to fight in at least one Crown Tournament carrying a favor from her. A favor is a fabric object about 3 inches by 5 inches that Chris wore on his belt when he fought. Jaine created a needlework one, but they can be woven. If Chris wins honor through his behavior or fighting skills, Jaine shares in it. If either of them behaves dishonorably, they share that as well. Favors are not given lightly and are not taken back or returned lightly. It is not the done thing for a fighter to carry many favors. A lady shouldn't hand out many, either. If he had won at a Crown Tourney, Chris and Jaine would have become heirs to the throne and in a few months, the King and Queen of Atlantia, the kingdom where they live. Crowns are held twice each year at different locations throughout Atlantia.

Chris' job was to be the best fighter he could be and Jaine's job was to stand on the sidelines and cheer him on. Chris practiced hard for this and Jaine learned lots of new vocabulary for the parts of armor and stick jock slang for things like 'armor bites' so she could speak with Chris about fighting. She's still not too good at watching fighting as she tends to wince and cover her eyes on occasion. This is what Chris used to look like when fighting. He removed the ears from his helm after this picture was taken and it is now blued steel.

Jaine gave Chris her favor to carry in Crown. She gave it to him during a fighter practice and it was fun. A hold was called, to stop the fighting and then Pedro the Herald asked Christopher to present himself before the group. Chris stepped forward, dropped to one knee and waited. Jaine made a short statement about the honor Chris was doing her by agreeing to carry her favor and handed the favor to Chris (she got a hand kiss as well, how gallant!) and that was that. The troops went back to fighting. Usually giving a favor isn't such a big production, but Jaine wanted Chris to know that she thought it was not just a big deal but a big honor.

After a year and two Crown Tourneys, Jaine has ended the formal consort/fighter relationship. She was having attacks of life and would not have been able to do a good job as Queen of Atlantia. Chris is still fighting, he still carries Jaine's favor but he will not again carry her favor into a Crown Tourney. If he fights in another Crown, he will carry someone else's favor and not Jaine's. Jaine wishes him well.
