Jaine Presents a Gift

In the middle of January, 2004, the Barony of Stierbach underwent a change. The Baron and Baroness stepped down and a new couple was crowned. This isn't such an unusual event, most Barons and Baronesses rule for between two and four years. The event where the change happens is called an investiture.

At Stierbach's Investiture, Jaine presented a gift to the outgoing Baron. Earl Mika Longbow is an archer in both SCAdian and real life. He's a darned good one, hunting elk and deer with bow and arrow. It's kind of obvoius with a name like Longbow. Anyway, Jaine had been shopping accompanied by Duke Paul of Belatrix (another story and it's a long one) when they spotted a perfect gift for the outgoing Baron. They got it and decided that Jaine would present it to Mika at Investiture. It would be a gift from one fighter to another.

Jaine stored the gift and waited for months for the investiture. She wanted it to be a surprise, so she only told the herald that she had something to present, but didn't show anyone what it was. She carried it into the hall covered up and tucked it behind a hanging well out of sight. It wasn't a thing that could be wrapped.

It was worth the effort to see the looks on everyone's faces when she finally presented the gift of a toy bow and arrow set.
