All that junque is important!

The longer I am active in SCA, the more things I have available to choose from to take to events. The populace is expected to bring all table decorations and equipment when there is a feast. I have a tablecloth, plate, cup, spoon, napkins and so on. Events where alcohol is allowed are BYOB. I like to take my needlework and something to snack on for most one day events. For big events, like Pennsic, I need a place to sleep, cooking equipment and garb. I also take a chair and my embroidery stand. None of this stuff is small, though some of it breaks down into a lot of large pieces of wood or cloth. Most of it is heavy. My smaller gear fits into baskets that I can carry by myself.

I used to drive a kewl two seater sports car that hauled next to nil but did it very quickly. I'd been either borrowing space in friend's vans or renting something bigger to get all of my stuff to and from events. It was expensive, I owed lots of favors and I was always forgetting something. I now own a full sized pickup truck that I have c onfigured for SCA use. It's a big, Dodge diesel with a cap over the 8 foot bed and a class 4 towing hitch. When I ordered the cap, I had a clothing rod with extra supports put in. My heavy garb will not cause it to sag and the extra supports keep the hangers from sliding up and down the entire rod while driving. I'm quite happy with my new truck.

In the future, I'd love to have a table to match my chair, cushions and bed coverings that match, feast gear that includes matching candelabra and other amenities. When I see households or individuals that have gone to the trouble of bringing things like that to events, I'm envious and appreciative of their display. It takes a lot of work, time and planning to get there with all the effluvia.

I installed steel shelving in my basement for storage of the stuff I own. It was easy to assemble and now my stuff is up off the floor and I can find what I want much more easily. I'm told my basement is very organized. I'm just too lazy to look for things.
