Bad Days and Good Stitching

This Lazy Wench so frequently has a piece of needlework in hand that significant life events happen to me while I am stitching. Later, I am able to glance at the finished objects and recall the events. I have a piece I was stitching on while sitting outside and a bird landed on my frame, hopped across the stitching and perched for a bit. I had to nudge her to get her to fly away. That was so kewl, that I plan to add little bird tracks to the piece, to commemorate the event.

Sometimes I deliberately select a piece to stitch on during a crisis. I chose a reproduction sampler to work on while the Senior Wench was in the hospital. I have an afghan that has seen me through numerous emergency room visits and a divorce. I've been stitching on that afghan during the stressful days after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. That afghan has seen a lot of bad times. When it is finished, I won't be adding commemorative bits to mark those events.

Wenches have photo albums full of life events, but only the good ones. We use other methods to keep events in memory when they are less pleasant. Many times those methods are not chosen by us, but are chosen for us. I am grateful that I still like stitching on that afghan and will be able to take pleasure in the finished object. That's my silver lining. That's one of the reasons this Wench stitches and will continue to stitch. Stitching makes me feel good about myself and my ability to produce beauty during a crisis. Any day I have time to set even a single stitch, I have had a better day.
